Location

The Amethyst Resort is located in one of the most beautiful and pristine beaches in the world - Passikudah. Located approximately 28km North of Batticaloa, which is in the Eastern coastal belt of Sri Lanka, the drive from Colombo usually takes about 6 - 7 hours or more depending on the route and time of day that you prefer to take. The golden sands, clear blue waters and the breathtaking bay of Passikudah beckon visitors to enjoy the simplistic beauty of the East Coast of Sri Lanka.

Accommodation

A total of 97 rooms which are well equipped with modern amenities are offered at the Amethyst Resort in Passikudah. 'Sea View Rooms' offers guests a secluded luxury cabana experience which faces the bay of Passikudah. Each room consists of an adjoining private verandah which opens out to the beach. The 'River View Rooms' are also spacious water view cabanas which faces a beautiful flowing stream. Offering an idyllic setting, each cabana has its own private verandah. The 'Deluxe Rooms' face the stream as well as the beach while they are fully equipped with all amenities to make your stay in Passikudah a memorable one. 'Luxury Suites' provide guests with beautiful views of the bay of Passikudah while they consist of ample relaxing and living space. The 'Beach Bungalow' is located on the beach while it is nestled under a number of trees offering a calming atmosphere. The two storey bungalow offers great views of the surroundings and is a great hideaway for the entire family.

The Amethyst Resort takes pleasure in serving their guests with mouth watering dishes while there are a number of venues that are available within the premises. 'Taprobane' is a delightful venue which offers an unforgettable sea food experience. Guests are offered a range of dishes prepared using the freshest sea food from the area. 'The Barrel Pub' is a chic Mediterranean style pub which offers guests a wide range of cocktails, the best beers in town and a range of alcoholic beverages along with light seafood bites and snacks. The deck area of the pub offers scenic views while the venue is fully equipped with the latest lights and sounds providing entertainment both smooth and fun along with karaoke music. The pool bar offers light snacks and a choice of cocktails that you can enjoy by the pool. The Amethyst Resort also boasts of an outdoor fresh water swimming pool which is set by the edge of the ocean. There is also a kiddie's pool and a Jacuzzi to provide you the relaxation that you require. Guests can laze around all day along the pool and the beach while there are sun beds provided.

Excursions

The Passikudah Bay consists of a shallow fringe of coral reef towards the outer area and scattered coral formations within the bay. This area is a proposed Marine sanctuary. The Batticaloa lagoon which is about 30mminutes away from the hotel comprises of several islands. There are bridges built in between theses islands connecting them while there are certain areas that are known for various species of fish, the singing fish being one of them. Between the months of March and August you can enjoy whale and dolphin watching tours in Trincomalee. You can easily spot blue whales, sperm whales, spinner dolphins etc.
